Stirring Hotplate
ThermoFisher's low profile Isotemp stirring hotplate line utilized all of Daedalus' development skills. The electrical design controls the stirring speed over a range of 100 to 2000 rpms with a microprocessor using optical feedback. A balanced permanent magnet attached to the motor's rotor uses its magnetic field to agitate a Teflon coated stirring magnet in a beaker solution. Thermal management issues, encountered with the low profile design, were handled with ceramic, die casting, metal extrusion, sheet metal, and glass fabrication techniques. Exterior parts in contact with the user are made of injection molded plastic. Various hotplate models used either traditional analog information displays or newer digital displays. The aesthetically pleasing low profile housing angles the simple controls and display toward the user. Applying the distinctive color palate and graphic waveform developed by Daedalus for other product lines to the housing reinforces ThermoFisher's brand image.
