AcuDose-Rx®

An intelligent, networked, medication-dispensing cabinet, AcuDose-Rx® prevents errors while speeding treatment and reducing cost. Located on the patient floors of hospitals, AcuDose-Rx® cabinets are networked to the Robot-Rx®, McKesson’s hospital pharmacy-based medication sorting and dispensing robot.

Daedalus Design joined McKesson's team during the development of the specification, in June, 1997. While McKesson focused on software and marketing, Daedalus developed the configuration, appearance and user interaction. Daedalus was also responsible for the mechanical and electrical engineering of the cabinet, drawer and lid locking/release mechanisms, and the provision of three working prototypes for the December, 1997 American Society of Hospital Pharmacists Meeting in Atlanta. The successful launch in Atlanta led to the immediate ordering of 700 units, establishing McKesson in this fast-growing market segment.
