Daedalus Excel Welcomes Al Bowers

Daedalus Excel welcomes Al Bowers to our growing firm. His arrival expands Daedalus’ capabilities for electrical and mechanical engineering. In his thirty-year career, Al has designed and implemented many electro-mechanical devices, pneumatic and hydraulic devices, bar-code scanners, RFID devices, and optical components.

Daedalus Excel collaborated with Al for many years prior to his joining us. Daedalus Excel was responsible for the industrial and interface design work for many of the projects that Al supervised as Engineering Manager for McKesson Automation and as Systems Engineer for Aethon, Inc., both Pittsburgh – based technology companies. Because of this experience, Al can help Daedalus better understand issues from a client’s point of view.

Al’s work includes the design of a unique pneumatic proportional valve control system on a PCB, an entire optical and motion simulator platform for the first Stinger missile guidance system, a Coast Guard searchlight pointing platform, a gyro-stabilized hi-power camera system, a pneumatic and electric robotic system for picking and verifying individually packaged drugs, and finally the re-design of a small battery operated autonomous delivery robot. In each of these efforts (and several less “visible” products), Al has provided complete documentation for production, and manufacturing engineering assistance.

When asked about his engineering philosophies, Al replied, “I always consider testing, serviceability as well as EOL and other manufacturing issues in any design no matter how small, as I believe that the best designs consider EVERY detail.”

Daedalus is excited to have Al Bowers as part of our team. Al looks forward to working with all of our old and new clients. You can contact him at 412-687-7000, ext. 22.
